7 Innovative Inshop Branding Ideas from Amitoje India

Being one of the top inshop branding agencies in the country, Amitoje India presents 7 very smart ways to brand your stores and getting consumer attention.

1. 3D Wall visuals
Everyone uses plain printed graphics on sunboard and vinyl for wall branding. However, an excellent way to create impact is to use 3D cutout jutting out of the creative. These cutouts can again be made in 5mm sunboard and attached to the background creative.

2. Cutout standees (no metal stand)
Rollup standees are now a thing of the past for inshop branding. Dazzle the consumer with a cutout standee. But more than that, we present an innovative standee which needs no ugly metallic back but can stand up by itself. Also it can be double sided unlike any other standee in the market.

6. Canvas frames
Canvas has traditionally been used for paintings and art. However, people miss out how good a medium it is to print marketing communication material. It’s matte and fabric look gives it an extremely rich feel. Moreover, when mounted on a 1″ wooden frame, it can be hung anywhere like a painting and looks very different from all the other plasticy posters people see everywhere.

7. Metallic Prints
Another interesting medium to print creatives on is metal. This can be done by printing on ACP or a metallic vinyl which can then be used like normal vinyl but there’s lively glow in the prints which gives it an impeccable sheen.

DIRECT UV PRINTING VS VINYL PRINTING ON SUN BOARD

Direct UV printing vs Vinyl Printing on Sun board

6 reasons why UV printing is a better and smart choice

Direct UV printing entails feeding a blank sheet to the machine and the sheet is directly printed without the need of any other film or sticker to be pasted on it. This form of printing has a lot of benefits over the traditional form of vinyl pasted on MDF/Sunboard.

1. Speed: Believe it or not, printing a substrate like Sunboard or sunpack or MDF directly is a much faster process than printing on a vinyl (which is usually quite slow itself), and then pasting it on another material. When time is of the essence faster production makes all the difference.

2. Cost: Since a lot of material, time and effort are saved in this process, direct UV printing will usually turn out to be cheaper than vinyl mounting. This cost benefit can further be passed to the custom and creates a win-win situation.

3. Peeling/durability: One of the major problems seen with vinyl applications are peeling edges. When you print a sheet directly, there is no question of any print peeling or scraping since the inks are UV cured and therefore permanent. These inks are water-proof and sun-proof so ensure a much longer durability and quality of the end product.

4. Color fading: Since the inks used to directly print a sheet are UV cured, they’re inherently protected from the Sun’s UV rays which are responsible for fading prints over time. These materials can last for as long as 3-5 years even in direct sunlight

5. Eco-friendly: Direct UV printing does not use solvent or eco-solvent ink forms. This is the latest technology in the printing world and is the most eco-friendly solution available. If you care about the environment, let your products show that.

6. Print-Cut-Sync: If you want a sun board or MDF cut out, it is much easier and efficient to sync a directly printed sheet with the cutting shape since the whole process is automatic and no manual intervention is needed. As a result, cut outs are faster and neater.

All of these make choosing direct UV printing a logical choice over digital vinyl printing. People are still not aware of the advancements and benefits of newer technologies and we at Amitoje India, feel it is our responsibility to spread this knowledge. We house all printing technologies like solvent printing, eco-solvent printing, digital printing and UV printing in-house and understand the benefits and disadvantages.

Can I just paste a self adhesive vinyl onto a wall?

Can I just paste a self adhesive vinyl onto a wall?

The answer is most cases is NO. For the uninitiated, self adhesive vinyl (or a sticker or a decal) is just a kind of paper with adhesive applied of one side. Vinyls are available in several colors and white (which is used for printing). Vinyl printing is the most commonly used technique for wall and store branding.

So why can’t I just apply it directly?

The reason is that vinyls need a very smooth surface to stay fixed. Since wall surfaces with paints are not usually smooth, even if you do paste if temporarily, it’ll soon start peeling. Dust and rough surfaces do not let the adhesive stay for long.

What’s the way out?

Since vinyls require a clean and smooth surface, the most common practice is to mount the vinyl on a foam board or sun board and then apply that sun board to the walls. Sun board is a light and strong PVC board which is commonly white and smooth. A 3mm sun board is the most popular product. But you can also paste vinyls directly on these surfaces without worry

1. Sun Board
2. PVC sheets
3. Acrylic (or smooth plastics)
4. Laminates
5. Glass

Can I paste vinyls on MDF or Wood?

Yes, vinyls can be pasted on MDF (medium density fibre) board or HDF (High density) board. But this is not a recommended practice since MDF and HDF surface are porous and ultimate not as smooth as the other substrates we specified. The vinyl stays on temporarily but starts peeling from the edges after a few days. The best way to avoid this is to print directly on MDF.

I’ve seen wall stickers, how are they possible?

As we mentioned vinyls don’t adhere to walls in most cases. Here we talk of the industrial grades of vinyl used for advertising and branding. However, manufacturers such as 3M and Avery produce special wall grade decals which are strong enough to adhere well to surfaces like walls – but they are speciality and expensive products.

5 Ways to brand your store’s window and glass

5 Ways to print and brand your store’s window and glass

The store glass is the first thing that makes an impression to the visitor. Therefore, you should try to be as innovative and clear in your message for the window as you can. There are a lot of unique options to brand your glass. We describe a few common ways to brand your glass and the materials used in the process. Feel free use them in isolation or combination for your own store.

1. Vinyl cut letters: Custom cut self-adhesive vinyl into the shape of letters, logos and messages is an extensively used technique that allows you to deliver your message without obstructing the view inside the store. We have all used these to make sale announcements, advertise new entries and seasons changes. However, it is dull and overused.

2. Semi-transparent graphics: Digital prints on translucent vinyls can be conveniently pasted on glass. They can also be cut outs as per your creative. The major benefit here is that you can install a large creative, maybe cover the glass top to bottom and also allow the customers to look what’s going on inside , behind the glass. It doesn’t make the glass seem like a solid wall but an entry into a new dimension of great products.

3. Opaque creatives: While translucent prints are great, it is possible, that they might not make as much impact as a solid opaque print would. The drawback here is that you must keep the size small so that your glass still allows inside activity to be seen. This kind of effect is achieved by printing on opaque self-adhesive vinyl (with our without a cut out) and applying it directly onto the window.

4. Frosted vinyl: Frosted/Etching self-adhesive vinyl was invented to give clear glass a frosted look. Frosting is a physical process done on glass that makes selected portions rough and opaque. This film provides the same effect quite well. The frosted film can be cut into any shape and can be used to represent your brand logo or your upcoming campaign. Further, this vinyl can be printed and it gives a really unique output in terms of aesthetics.

5. One way vision: The one-way-vision/mesh printed vinyl has a mesh-like structure. The speciality of this material is that from the outside it looks like a solid print (maybe around 75% opacity) but from the inside of the store everything outside is visible. This is a good option if you want to print huge creatives and cover the whole glass. If your store is inside a mall or has a good amount of lighting inside, the opacity from outside further reduces (approximately around 50%).

Now that you are aware of the basic techniques to brand your glass, ask your design team to play around with these ideas and make something unique to accurately portray your brand and it’s ideology.

What is Sun board (foam board) and how is it used in printing?

What is Sun board (foam board) and how is it used in printing?

Sun board or Foam board is a very strong, light, and easily cut sheet material used for the mounting of vinyl prints, as backing in framing, and for painting. It usually has three layers — an inner layer of polystyrene foam and a white claycoated paper on the outside.

Apart from printing, Sun board is commonly used to prototype objects, produce architectural models, and to make casting patterns. Backgrounds for scale model displays, dioramas, and games (computer) are often produced by hobbyists from sun board. It’s often useful for photographers as a reflector for light in the studio, and in the design industry to display presentations of new products; Another use is with aero-modellers for building small radio-controlled aircraft.

But nowadays sun board is widely used in India and around the world for large format printing and store branding. Photos or creatives are first printed on a self-adhesive vinyl which is then mounted on to the sun board. This sun board can then be taken pasted on a wall, pillar or other flat surfaces using either double-sided adhesive tapes or nails depending on the surface. The more modern method is to print the sun board directly using a UV flatbed printing machine. UV prints on sun board last longer and are free from peeling problems.

What is the image resolution required to print on sun boards ?

In any large-format printing solution, the recommended image resolution is between 72 to 100 dpi at actual size. It is a myth that your images need to be 300 dpi. That is valid for small format printing (like brochures or catalogs) but for prints which are larger in size and have to be seen from a distance, 72 to 100 is a really good print resolution.

Innovative Sunboard Vinyl Printed Dangler for Mother Dairy India

Innovative Sunboard Dangler for Mother Dairy

Recently our client Mother Diary started a new campaign called “Doodh Morning, Good Morning” which shows the health benefits of milk and diary products. Even though the client team wanted a simple dangler for their stores, we came up with a much more elegant and eye-catching solution.

After several iterations and sampling, we’re sharing some pictures of the innovative sunboard dangler we ended up making and can be seen at Mother Dairy stores.

The dangler is made from 3mm sunboard with digital vinyl printing and a layer of UV lamination. What seals the deal, are the smartly placed sunboard 3d cutouts on the dangler which make it look 3D and different. The elements are raised from the background surface by around 5mm thus giving a natural shadow around the cutout.

This was a low-budget mass-quantity product, but it can be enhanced according to your budget. Contact us for your similar requirements.

Innovative Idea: Printing your creatives on Canvas for your next campaign

Printing your creatives on Canvas for your next campaign

Canvas has been used for ages for making paintings and art. But in this new age of technology, it is possible to directly print canvas in a way that is it waterproof and as fadeproof as a real painting. However, it is known by only a few that canvas is an excellent medium for marketing communication and retail display. Canvas is usually made 100% cotton and can be folded or rolled like any other fabric.

Most posters and communications are printed on either paper or self-adhesive vinyl, mounted on sunboard (foamboard) or applied directly to walls and pillars. However, there are advantages and disadvantages of both.

Printing on Vinyl/Paper

Advantages of Paper/Self-adhesive Vinyl
◦ Traditional look and feel of printed creatives
◦ Better detail can be achieved since the surface is smooth

Disadvantages of Paper/Self-adhesive Vinyl
◦ Prints will reflect light and cause glare
◦ Prints look plasticy and unnatural
◦ This method is very common and overused

Printing on Canvas

If you get a print on canvas, we suggest getting it gallery wrapped. In this case, the canvas is wrapped on a 1″ (or more) thick wooden frame and the side edges are also covered in print. This is also called a Museum wrap or Gallery wrap. A Digital photo printed on canvas and then gallery wrapped have a vibrant 3-D feel and have the look of a piece of work taken straight from a gallery or museum. Support wooden bars in the background prevent compression marks and creases in the print. Canvas prints also give the owner many framing options such as standard frames for non-stretched prints, custom-built standard frames for mounted, and floating frames which can give added aesthetics to the print.

An image printed on canvas and gallery wrapped

Advantages of Canvas prints
◦ Gives a matty, natural and earthy feel to your print.
◦ Your creatives have 3D block effect, making them look much more elegant.
◦ Virtually unlimited sizing options with many panoramics reaching lengths of 80 inches or more
◦ Can be split into multiple panels for added visual effect
◦ Can be hung in placed with high humidity without any cause for worry since the prints are waterproof
◦ Requires no installation, and can be hung and removed in a matter of seconds just like a painting.

Disadvantages of Canvas prints
◦ The texture of canvas must be considered along with the image being printed;
◦ You cannot change the image like a paper print inside of a frame; once stretched and mounted it is permanent
◦ The printing detail is not as fine as printing it on vinyl or sunboard, but that is apparent only when you look at it from a very close distance or with very small font-size

Ultimately, we suggest using a framed canvas print for your next marketing campaign. Design posters and wall graphics and hang them up like masterpieces.

As a bonus, Amitoje India provides high quality canvas printing in Delhi (India), so you can feel free to contact us.

5 tips for visual merchandizing for retail in India

The visual presentation in the store has always been the major customer motivation accounting for the a majority of retail purchase.

Your window display has the potential to attract the customer, reel them in and ultimately lead to purchase. However, there are a few key points every merchandizer should keep in mind.

1. Show less, Focus more
The human mind has a limited attention and focus span and therefore it is advisable to keep the display simple and uncluttered. Leave a lot of space around. The most common mistake is trying to show too much at the same time. Props should be simple in shape, preferably something that provides a large mass of color or texture, such as blocks, covered boxes or risers.

2. Attract first, provide choice later: Pyramid method
Place one element at the top of the display which is clear and focussed. Below that, in the form of a pyramid, place other elements which provide choice. It’s hard to go wrong with a pyramid display.

3. Love odd numbers
Always place an odd number of elements in a group. Since it’s easier for the brain to zone in on the middle and the arrangement is slightly off balance, the eyes moves around to look at each frame or object. A perfectly balanced arrangement ie even no is dull to the eye.

4. Repeat, repeat and repeat
Use variations of identical elements as that creates a very powerful display mechanism. It’s a simple idea but can have a lot of impact on the mind of the consumer and it’s hard to miss such a display.

5. Contrast is key
Make sure the items or frames you want to focus clearly contrast with the background. This includes color contrast as well as material texture contrast. For example, don’t put a metal frame on top of a glossy background. Try making the background dull and repeated so that the frame that displays important information stands out.

6. BONUS: Always hire a good agency to execute your campaigns. An idea is only as good as it’s execution. So while your presentation might look fabulous in your laptop, the real thing in the store must be as efficiently done. See www.amitoje.com or contact us to find out more on how we can help you in this regard.

“Good visual merchandising is a mix of art, inspiration and science. While great visual can sell lousy product, poor visuals can do nothing for great merchandise.”
Paco Underhill, Why We Buy

Get comfortable with having some empty space in your high fashion displays. Crowding is a symbol of low value. So anything that is high value deserves a lot of space around it. If you keep an expensive item in a crowd the human brain perceives it to be of lower value.

Above all, use the K.I.S.S. theory of display: Keep It Simple, Sweetheart!
